Our volunteer base is made up of a healthy mix of Starfish alumni, university undergrads, and young working professionals. As a volunteer, you'll engage directly with our youth and connect with like-minded peers. You will help out-of-school youth pursue education again and, more importantly, rebuild their self-belief.

You will receive regular training, be part of townhalls and gain exposure to the social service sector. We're committed to supporting your growth.

Volunteering at Starfish has been one of the most powerful experiences of my life. With Starfish, you'll help out-of-school youths rewrite their stories, pass national exams, and get back on track. Be the reason someone gets a second chance.

Xin Yi has been a dedicated volunteer since 2016. Her commitment began during her junior college years and continued throughout her time at the Singapore Management University, where she graduated with a degree in Law and Business Management.

Learning Facilitators
Directly engage and coach our out-of-school youths while supporting the main teachers during weekly classroom lessons. Lessons are held at Tzu Chi Humanistic Youth Centre (5 mins from Yishun MRT).
Please opt to be a learning facilitator for either one of our two programs: Project Starfish or Project Ad Astra.
Project Starfish
Be available on Mondays, 930am - 230pm, minimally for 3 months.
G1 English, Math, Science, Mother Tongue (Chinese, Malay and Tamil).
Support in-class admin duties (attendance, N-level registration, EAE applications)
Aid main teachers maintain classroom engagement, participation and decorum (e.g. roving between grouped students during lessons to discourage idle talking and encourage active listening)
Invigilation and marking of term assessments (March, June, August)
Promote healthy learning habits amongst the youth in the Starfish Community
Project AD ASTRA
Be available on Tuesdays, 930am - 1pm, minimally for 3 months.
Assist main teachers (e.g. distributing worksheets, answer in class student queries)
Aid main teachers maintain classroom engagement, participation and decorum (e.g. roving
between grouped students during lessons to discourage idle talking and encourage active listening)
Promote healthy learning habits amongst the youth in the Starfish Community
REQUIREMENTS
Be available to attend online/physical briefings and quarterly trainings
A positive attitude towards group learning settings
Familiar with at least one of the subjects (Math, English, Science or Mother Tongue)
Ideally prior volunteering experience with youths from challenging backgrounds
and with learning differences
